Why does it matter?

Backflow prevention isn't just a safety measure—it's the law. Most systems require annual testing to prevent water contamination and comply with local regulations. High-risk environments like hospitals or industrial facilities may require quarterly inspections.

Select a state to view the Backflow Regulations for your area:

  • Water is designed to flow in one direction - from the city main into your building. "Backflow" is the dangerous reversal of that flow. This happens when a pressure change (like a nearby fire hydrant use or a water main break) creates a vacuum, sucking non-potable water back into the clean drinking supply.

  • Think of it as a "one-way gate" for your plumbing. It uses a series of internal check valves and springs that stay open when water flows forward but snap shut the instant they sense a drop in pressure or a reversal of flow. This physical barrier ensures that once water enters your system, it can never "back-slide" into the public supply.

  • A Test is a diagnostic check using calibrated gauges to ensure those internal gates are holding pressure. A Rebuild is the surgery- replacing the rubber seals, gaskets, and springs inside the device when they wear out. Most devices don't need to be replaced entirely; they just need an expert rebuild to be like new.

  • Because these devices have moving parts, they eventually fail due to wear, mineral buildup, or age. Since you can't "see" backflow happening, the law requires a certified specialist to verify the device is functional. In the Tri-State area, failing to provide a passing test report can result in heavy fines or water service termination.

  • Backsiphonage: Occurs when there is a drop in the water supply pressure (like a break in the city line).

Backpressure: Occurs when the pressure in your building (from a boiler or pump) becomes higher than the city’s supply pressure, forcing water backward. A properly maintained device stops both.

  • Backflow devices are precision instruments. While many plumbers can install a pipe, a Certified Backflow Specialist has the specific training and calibrated equipment required to test, diagnose, and rebuild these valves to exact regulatory standards. It’s a specialized field that requires specialized knowledge.

What’s in your water?

Lots of things can accidently find their way into your pipes:

Fertilizers & Pesticides can siphon into pipes

•Stagnant water can contain rust, scale, and bacteria

•Heating/Cooling Fluids can leach from boilers and HVAC

•Cleaning Agents & Soaps

•Heavy Metals such as lead, copper, and brass

Meet jeff

BackflowPlus is owned and operated by Jeff Webber, a Tri-State local dedicated to keeping our community’s water clean and affordable.

Jeff started this business with a simple mission: to stop neighbors from overpaying for mandatory compliance.

Licensed across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, Jeff brings expert-level skill with a small-business touch. He’s the guy who does the work, signs the paperwork, and stands behind every rebuild.

When you call BackflowPlus, you get Jeff on the phone and Jeff at your door—no dispatchers, no corporate markups, just expert service from a local pro you can actually talk to.

  • Realized our annual certification was past due and the city was threatening a fine. Jeff was out here the next day. He found a small leak during the test, fixed it on the spot, and filed the report before he even left the parking lot. It’s great dealing with the owner directly instead of a call center.

    —Sarah T., Business Owner

  • I used to dread backflow season because the paperwork was such a headache. Since switching to BackflowPlus, I don't even have to think about it. Jeff tests the device, fixes what’s broken, and files the digital reports with the water department before he even pulls out of the driveway. Total peace of mind.

    —Robert P., Small Business Owner

  • Most plumbers 'also do' backflow, but Jeff is a BackflowPlus specialist. You can tell the difference the second he starts talking. He explained exactly why our industrial system was vibrating and rebuilt the check valves on-site. He saved us from a massive shutdown. Professional grade all the way.

    —Steve D., Facility Director
